Work/Desk Essentials | Professional Photographer
Hey wonderful friends! I wanted to share my work set up with you today! This will involve breaking down a few categories. Technically, I can show up anywhere with my laptop and hard drives and get work done, but this is my home desk! I have found it vital in this season to have a space in my bedroom dedicated to the EFC. There have been many studies that discovered "working" on your bed can develop an unhealthy mental relationship with winding down at night and sleeping. You are working and hustling in the same place you are suppose to just turn off and rest just a few hours late. After learning this, I wanted my mind and body to only know my bed a place of rest and sleep. Through different living spaces, this has looked differently. My current room is large, and its easy to not cross those boundaries. I challenge you to develop a habit of working at a desk, a table or in a separate room from your bed. Since doing this, I can turn off work at night and focus on personal reading, researching, relaxing, and of course actual sleeping so much easier, without out mind confusion or any tension. So here is my little corner below!
TECNOLOGY:
MacBook Pro -Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015 [ I think I'm going to write another blogpost about my set up within my mac. What programs, presets, and hacks I use daily/weekly! So stay on the look out, if thats something you would like! Sign up for my newsletter at www.emily-frazier.com OR subscribe to my blog (to your right) for email notifications when a post goes live!
Lacie Hard drives [ I love that I can plug in up to 4 of these harddrives as they have thunderbolt and USB plugs. When I'm bouncing from blogging to posting to editing, its a dream set up. *if you have any questions about the Lacie's and why I spend that extra $$ on them, lmk!* ]
Beats Headphones [ I inherited this pair from a camper who left them behind at the camp I worked at in highschool. On there way out :/ but I've set a new pair as my reward for some hefty business goals. I look a little nerdy with beat up headphones at the gym or in coffee shop, but I would have a death grip if someone tried to take them from me. Such quality, y'all!! ]
THE VIBES:
ASAKUKI Humidifier/essential oil diffuser [ Usually for work hours I will be using peppermint oil, eucalyptus, and/or tea tree. Peppermint for headaches and waking up, eucalyptus when I'm feeling sick or stuffy, tea tree for my face if its feeling oily. ]
COFFEE,TEA or GOLDEN MILK [ I am a sucker for City & States Love Struck Latte, Cafe Keough's Green Tea Latte, The Hub's Vanilla Latte, and Edge Alley's Vanilla Latte. However, at home I'm sipping on English Breakfast Tea or Earl Grey. I am also still experimenting with golden milk at home, but it involves a perfect mixture of milk, turmeric, pepper, honey, and cinnamon.
Glass of water [ Essential! My first action is drinking water when I notice a groggy feeling or plato of productivity. Hydration affects every area of your body and mind. ]
Natural light [Coffee shop or at home, I don't hunker down somewhere without a window near by. The sun energizes and inspires me. As the sun goes down, I either am hustling into the evening, or losing energy, it really depends on what I'm working on. Vitamin D is also essential for energy and health.]
Spotify [My inspiration playlist! But if I'm really struggling to get into a work grind (like currently writing some blog posts) I turn on some OLD Ed Sheeran. So basically, you can find me yelling "YOU NEED ME, I DON'T NEED YOU." at the top of my lungs from about 3pm-6pm)
OTHER:
List Book [ I have one notebook that hold every list you can think of. My daily to dos, my gift ideas, year goals, research, grocery lists, you name it. I don't go anywhere without this book. Its kind-of my life line. I've thought about breaking down how I use a full to do list every day with different categories and reminders, but its probably really nerdy... ]
Calendar [I am all about visual + physical processing so I have write things down for them to register in my mind. I keep a physical planner by my side 24/7)
Clip Board [ My clipboard holds any paper work/notes/ or random thing that are involved in my to do list. I might have two. One that hold contracts I am working on with checks I need to deposit or something of that nature. ]
PEN [ I wish I could say penS but I never have more then one functional pen at a time and its ridiculous.]
There you go! Again this is the IDEAL setting because I would consider each piece an essential since it serves a purpose and effects my work day. I truly believe your body and mind must be at its tip top shape to grind out quality and incredible work. Now, highschool and travel would contradict that statement. The truth is, on a day in and out basis at home, for me to be inspired daily health is 110% the main factor. This is why i prioritize sleep, hydration, diet, and exercise. When I was in a constant state of exciting adventure and change of scenery, it takes less sleep and less mental health actions to get to the same kind of inspiration and energy level to work. I really believe a part of the responsibility of full time creative is creating the space that inspires you. I can't afford saying "I just don't feel like it today" anymore. And I respects artists who choose to not make their art into a job, because its hard to place that pressure on such a sensitive and sporadic ability. I am open to questions and feedback, so comment below or message me with any of that! I love connecting and growing together!
