Paul + Christi | Proposal on the Bluff

Paul + Christi | Proposal on the Bluff

Welp. Its no surprise I’m here and not trying to cry. EHM pulling it together. Christi and Paul got engaged a few weeks back, and the photos are freakin adorable. Paul called me weeks before that to brainstorm on the phone. I was touched at how adamant he was that Christi 1. wanted me there as their photographer but even more so 2. that they wanted me there as their friend, and that as soon as we got the party, they didn’t want me shooting. It meant so much. I am so thankful to call them dear friends, and to have witnessed this night.

Normally I don’t even know about the total context, story, or experience prior of a proposal, because I’m a hired photographer for that specific hour. This time was very different. I’ve been friends with christi for a couple years, and now friends with Paul since he came into her life. I could BLAB about my perspective and MY version of the story, however its much less interesting then their perspective. So here are Christi’s words:

“On Friday night Lanie, Emily, and I had a girls movie night and after Paul was going to stop by to say goodnight. About an hour before he was going to come over I got a text saying he had a really bad headache so he was just going to go to bed. On Saturday morning I asked Paul if he wanted to get coffee but he said he still wasn’t feeling good. I was disappointed but I understood and wanted him to rest and feel better.

Lanie, Lauren, and I had planned to have a girls day so we went to brunch, got coffee, kayaked on the Mississippi, got gelato, and just had a great day. The plan was to get dressed up and go to Majestic for a nice dinner,or so I thought. At this point I was getting a little suspicious because of how weird they were about me wearing a new dress that Lanie (really Paul) had gotten but I thought Paul’s parents were in Chattanooga so there was no way it was happening. We went for a walk while we were “waiting for our table” and we started walking a strange direction but I thought Lanie just wanted to see one of the small parks downtown so I let it slide. It wasn’t until we were right up on it that I saw the table set up with flowers, pictures of me and Paul, and a very sweet letter from Paul (that I had to reread later because I was shaking too hard to read it at the time). I turned around and Paul was waiting there for me (not sick I might add).

He said some very sweet things, made some very sweet promises (that he had to repeat later because it was all a blur), and he asked me to marry him. I managed to get out a “yes” and then realized all our family and friends were waiting to celebrate with us. He made sure we were surrounded by the people who we loved most and who got us to where we are today and for that I am thankful. I love this thoughtful, kind, determined man so much and I can’t wait for next spring when I get to be his W I F E.”

Scroll to enjoy the longest 30 minute wait of our lives, and the sweetest proposal eva:
