Rogers Park, Chicago, IL | Anniversary Session | Roxanne + Jason

Man, I could say so much about this session. I was absolutely honored that I got to spend time with Roxanne and Jason. They gave me a couple hours in Rogers Park (their old stomping grounds) to capture their love. They celebrated 19 years of marriage this year, and I’m just blown away. They were quick to be transparent, honest that their journey has not always been hugs, laughs, and kisses. They were quick to say I love you to each other and hold one another tight. This is a session I won’t forget. At the very end, I asked them to read their vows out loud to each other. (I had messaged Roxanne to see if she still had them.) It was powerful and memorable. I love love love doing this because its incredible feeling the power in words written and vowed year ago, and now seeing them acted on, tested, and tried. They’ve walked a path neither of them could have anticipated. Through living across the world, walking through adoption, unexpected diagnosis’s, and so so much more, I think documentation of what life looks like now is so important. Roxanne has a been a source of such wisdom and encouragement for me the last couple years. The way she sees documentation and humanitarian photography has formed my own beliefs and ethics in my work. Just really thankful for her and her husband!
